'I just can’t fit him': World Cup wining captain's ruthless take on Brook vs Stokes debate
The English cricket team will play New Zealand in a four-match ODI series as a part of the preparation for the upcoming ODI World Cup in India.
Young English batting star Harry Brook suffered a major setback as he was snubbed from England's provisional ODI World Cup 2023 squad. The England and Wales Cricket Board has given a chance to six new players and has also brought back all-rounder Ben Stokes. It is believed that Brook lost his place due to the inclusion of Stokes, who came out of his one-year-old ODI retirement earlier this month.
3 things you need to know
- England are the defending champions of the ODI World Cup
- The English team won its maiden ODI World Cup title under the leadership of Eoin Morgan
- The opening match of the ODI World Cup 2023 will be played between England and New Zealand on October 5
Eoin Morgan gives brutal opinion on the infamous Harry Brook snub
Amidst the claims, wherein, it was the inclusion of Ben Stokes that led to the snub of Harry Brook from England's ICC ODI World Cup 2023 squad, former English skipper Eoin Morgan believes that it was the depth in the English batting, that didn't allow Brook to fit in the batting order. Eoin Morgan said during a discussion on Sky Sports:
In really good teams that have a lot of talent, but mainly a lot of success, there are really good players that miss out. When I look at the squad that has been selected, I can’t get Harry Brook into that squad.
Simply because the return of Ben Stokes adds another middle-order player. Without him bowling, you do need a top-order player as a genuine replacement if somebody in the top order goes down. You need two seamers and an extra spinner which they have cover for but an extra batter in amongst that, I just can’t fit Harry Brook in, which is amazing to say.
Will England repeat 2019 ODI World Cup heroics?
The English cricket team will be playing a four-match ODI series starting from September 8, 2023, against New Zealand as a part of their preparation ahead of the major 50-over ICC event. The three lions led by Jos Buttler will aim to repeat the 2019 ODI World Cup heroics, once again in 2023. However, the return of Ben Stokes has once again has strengthened their squad and increased their chances to retain their crown.
