Shreyas Iyer has slammed a remarkable century in his comeback series for India. In the second ODI of the three-match series against Australia, Iyer completed a century off just 86 balls. It is worth noting that Iyer was out of competitive cricket action for the past five months or so. He had sustained an injury during a Test series against Australia in March this year. Iyer marked his return to international cricket during the Asia Cup 2023. Unfortunately, the Mumbai batter was ruled out due to a back spasm just after two games. He returned to the playing XI for the ODI series against the Aussies in the absence of a few senior players.

Iyer makes a strong case for himself ahead of the ODI World Cup 2023

Shortly after removing his helmet to celebrate his third ODI century, Iyer was dismissed when he offered a catch to Matthew Short from Sean Abbott's delivery. The right-handed batsman was dismissed for 105 runs from 90 balls and had to return to the pavilion. It's worth noting that Iyer's previous century occurred on October 9, 2022, against South Africa in Ranchi, where he scored an impressive unbeaten 113 runs.

India take the Aussies to the cleaners

As far as the match is concerned, Australia won the toss and elected to field first at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore. Ruturaj Gaikwad was dismissed early for just 8 runs after he opened the batting alongside Shubman Gill. Iyer then joined Gill in the middle and forged a 200-run partnership before getting dismissed in the 31st over. Gill, on the other hand, is also nearing a century. He is currently batting with stand-in captain KL Rahul.
