IND vs BAN: Players who didn't make the cut in T20 squad vs Bangladesh
IND vs BAN: Indian T20 squad was announced that will take on Bangladesh in the three-match T20 series that starts from November 3.
Indian T20 squad was announced on Thursday that will take on Bangladesh in the three-match T20 series which will start from November 3. Virat Kohli has been handed a much-needed break from international cricket. Rohit Sharma will lead the side in T20Is.
Kohli, however, will return for the two-match Test series. Wrist spinner Yuzvendra Chahal who has been out of favour after the recently-concluded World Cup made a return to the T20 squad and Kerala batsman Sanju Samson was rewarded for his consistent outings in domestic cricket, including the Indian Premier League (IPL), with a long-awaited call-up. He had played his first and only T20I way back in 2015. Shivam Dube also earned his maiden T20I call-up because of his impressive performances in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. There were some players who were not able to make a cut into the team.
Let us have a look at those players:
Ravindra Jadeja: All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was left out to make space for Krunal Pandya, who offers a similar set of skills. In the build-up to the 2020 T20 World Cup, India has been looking for depth in their lower-order; hence they have preferred bowlers who can also contribute with the bat, which has seen Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav not being played together.
Vijay Shankar: Shankar who was ruled out of the World Cup due to the injury was not in the scheme of things of the selectors as Shivam Dubey was preferred over him considering his impressive performances.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar: Kumar was out with an injury and he has not recovered fully yet. So, selectors did not take any chance and said that he might come in the next series as they wanted to ensure he was fully fit. Shardul Thakur has been brought into the team.
Jasprit Bumrah: Bumrah sustained a minor stress fracture in his lower back and he was out of the series vs South Africa. He has been given time to recover from his injury.
M.S Dhoni: Chief Selector Prasad again made it clear that they will back Pant and are not looking back at Mahendra Singh Dhoni. So, he has been overlooked by the selectors once again.
Indian squad for T20Is against Bangladesh:
Rohit Sharma(Capt), Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Sanju Samson, Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey, Rishabh Pant(wk), Washington Sundar, Krunal Pandya, Yuzvendra Chahal, Rahul Chahar, Deepak Chahar, Khaleel Ahmed, Shivam Dube, Shardul Thakur.
