Despite having a young team, the South African side can’t be taken lightly. Faf du Plessis-led Proteas team will be looking to start with a win and gather some points if they can against India. They will kick off their ICC World Test Championship campaign with the Test series against team India. The last time South Africa were in India for a Test series, they had experienced players like Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers, Faf du Plessis, Imran Tahir, etc. in their team. Though Faf du Plessis is still playing, the rest of the players have retired and now the team is filled with new and young players.

The South African squad has some young players who have shown a lot of promise in their career so far. Though Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj, and Vernon Philander have almost no experience of playing on Indian soil, they will be coming into the match, looking to grab every opportunity they can to leave a mark. Other players like Temba Bavuma, Lungi Ngidi, Aiden Markram and Anrich Nortje have some experience of playing in India. They know about the conditions by playing India tours.

Wicket-keeper/batsman Quinton de Kock, on the other hand, has played a lot of matches in India thanks to the IPL and other international tournaments, but those were limited overs matches and he will be wanting to gather some experience in the longer format of the game. Zubayr Hamza showcased his talent while going up against Pakistan last season and there is an opeing for Hamza to shine.
