On a rain-shortened Day 1, the Indian team were comfortably poised at 202-0 in 59.1 overs. After a solid opening day performance by the hosts, the Indian batsmen successfully capitalised on the good start provided by Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal. After a toiling day on the field yesterday, the South African bowlers continued to struggle against the strong Indian batting line-up. The visitors finally got their first success at 317 in the form of Rohit Sharma who scored 176. Mayank Agarwal, however, continued his rampage as he smashed the visiting bowlers all over the park on his way to his maiden Test century. In the afternoon session, Mayank Agarwal converted his maiden Test hundred into a double before he was finally dismissed for 215. The Proteas managed to dismiss Pujara, Virat Kohli and Rahane cheaply but their effort was not enough as the home side posted a huge first innings score. Virat Kohli declared the innings at 502-7, leaving the visitors to face 20 overs in the final session of the day.
