South African team will head into the upcoming Test series in India after a morale-boosting win in the third T20I in Bengaluru. The win also helped them level the three-match T20I series 1-1 after the opening tie was abandoned in Dharamshala. The Test series will also be the third edition of Freedom Trophy between the two nations. While hosts India won the inaugural edition by blanking the visitors 3-0 in 4 Tests in 2015, the Proteas returned the favour by winning 2-1 on India’s tour of the rainbow country in 2018.

South Africa’s form guide in Tests

The Proteas have played only 4 Test matches in 2019 so far. They started 2019 with a Test match against the visiting Pakistani team which the hosts won by 9 wickets. The match was the second game of the series which started on the ‘Boxing Day’ last December. The home side once again trumped Pakistan in the third Test to wrap the series 3-0. After the ODI series against the same team, South Africa hosted Sri Lanka for a two-match Test series and eight limited-overs (ODI’s and T20I’s) contests. In a historic series, the visiting Sri Lankans won both Tests to whitewash the hosts 2-0. Sri Lanka’s win also made them the first-ever Asian team to win a Test series in South Africa. As of now, South Africa’s red ball-cricket track record for 2019 reads – Played 4, Won 2, Lost 2.
