Best T20I matches between India and Bangladesh
In the past few years, the limited-overs rivalry between these two nations has gained widespread recognition due to their competitive and enthralling on-field contests. Even though both teams are yet to engage in a bilateral T20 series, the two often contest with each other in ICC T20 World Cup and Asia Cup matches. Both India and Bangladesh have faced each other eight times, with the ‘Men in Blue’ winning all eight of them. Before the series kicks off this weekend, here we take a look at three of the best T20I encounters between the two Asian giants.
India vs Bangladesh: Asia Cup 2016 Final at Dhaka
The 13th edition of Asia Cup was also the first to be played in the T20I format. India reached the final by winning all four of their Group Stage matches. Bangladesh, however, lost to India in the very first match to register their only defeat in the first round. Bangladesh batted first and scored 120-5 in a rain-affected 15-over final. India lost opener, Rohit Sharma, early and were left to chase 19 runs from 12 balls at one stage. However, MS Dhoni’s blistering 20* from 6 balls ensured that Team India won the game in the penultimate over itself to regain the Asia Cup.
India vs Bangladesh: Super 10 match of ICC T20 World Cup 2016 at Bengaluru
In a must-win game for both teams, team India could only post 146-7 in their 20 overs. Bangladesh started their chase confidently by keeping up with the required rate for a major part of the innings. With one over to go and four wickets in hand, Bangladesh were left to require 11 runs for victory. A couple of boundaries later, the equation soon became 2 runs from 3 balls. In a dramatic turnaround, Bangladesh lost three wickets off their final three balls to lose the game by 1 run.
India vs Bangladesh: Nidahas Trophy 2018 final at Colombo
India and Bangladesh reached the tri-series final which also involved Sri Lanka as a third team. Bangladesh, riding on Sabbir Rahman’s 77 from 50 balls posted 166-8 while batting first. Team India required 34 to win from 12 balls at one stage. Indian wicket-keeper Dinesh Karthik scored 29* off just 8 balls to play an innings of a lifetime. The right-hander smashed a flat six over cover from the last ball to snatch an unlikely win.
