IPL Auction 2020: 3 overseas players who could be released by SRH
SRH might look to release some overseas players in the upcoming IPL auction 2020 due to controversies or poor form to fare better than the 2019 season.
Indian Premier League side Sunrisers Hyderabad’s planning and execution have made things easier for them almost every season as they have performed exceptionally well in the last four seasons. In 2019, they made it to the playoffs despite the absence of Australia's dashing opener David Warner. In the upcoming 2020 season, Sunrisers will be looking to take away the title with a pretty much full-strength squad at their disposal. And in the process, they might look forward to release some players in the forthcoming auction in IPL 2020. Let's take a look at three overseas players who could be released by SRH.
Martin Guptill
The New Zealand opener had always been very unfortunate with his Indian Premier League performances. He has never got enough chances or game time to perform and show his class. In the last season, Guptill had played three matches and scored 81 runs. His highest score was 36 runs. He had a strike rate of 137.5. The SRH side will be looking forward to replace Martin Guptill and rope in some young talent, who could serve as a back-up to David Warner and Jonny Bairstow and learn the tricks of the trade while warming the benches.
Shakib Al Hasan
The Bangladesh cricketer, who was banned recently by the ICC till October 2020, has high chances of getting released by his current franchise. Shakib has played for the SRH side since 2018. He was majorly not picked for many matches in the 2019 season and will miss the upcoming season due to the recent controversy. In 2018 season, he picked 14 wickets in the 17 matches he played. He had an economy rate of 8. Also, the SRH all-rounder scored 239 runs that season with a strike rate of 121.31. Meanwhile, in 2019, Shakib just played three games, picking two wickets and scoring nine runs. The Sunrisers could look to pick an overseas all-rounder with the calibre of Shakib in the T20 format.
Billy Stanlake
The fast bowler has been in an excellent form currently in domestic cricket back in Australia, but he doesn't boast of a great IPL record despite his abundant talent. He has played only six games across the 2017 and 2018 seasons and only picked seven wickets.
Meanwhile, in 2018, he played four games and picked five wickets for SRH. He didn’t play other games owing to an injury. In the IPL, he has an economy rate of 8.33, and there are high chances that SRH don’t retain him this season.
