The cricket veteran Sunil Gavaskar exactly knows what it takes to take a team to a grand title, as he has already done that in the 1985 World Championship of Cricket in Australia where all seven test teams of the time participated. There are only two other captains who have got India the glory in a 50-over tournament. Kapil Dev did that at the 1983 World Cup and Mahendra Singh Dhoni at the 2011 World Cup and the 2013 Champions Trophy.

Gavaskar highlights the importance of all-rounders in teams
The recent captains Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have tried their luck but have not been successful in doing so. However, in this year's World Cup, which is set to begin from October 5, India has a clear shot at victory as the ODI World Cup is set to be hosted by India and a lot of focus will be on skipper Rohit Sharma.
All-rounders are very important
When asked what is the key to a successful captain, Gavaskar while speaking at a promotional event said the common factor in India's three winning sides was its all-rounders.
"More than anything else, luck for the day is an extremely important factor and if we see the teams (in 1983, 1985 and 2011), they had the best all-rounders. You had the fine bastsmen who could bowl 7-8-9 oves and bowlers who could easily bat down the order. It was clearly a big positive point for the team that time."
He added, "You can see MS Dhoni's team as well, Suresh Raina, Yuvraj Singh, Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, they all could easily bowl. It was clearly the biggest plus point. So, the team has all-around."
Gavaskar hails England and its players
Speaking about the current 50-over World Champions, England, he said that their all-rounders were their biggest positive point.
"Take the example of England who won last year's T20 World Cup, look at the all-rounders that they had. So it is very important to have fine all-rounders."
Sunil Gavaskar has been made the principal advisor of Midwicket Stories, which is a platform for cricketing legends to share their interesting experiences with the audience.
