Jacques Kallis is widely considered as one of the greatest all-rounders the game has produced in both Tests and ODIs. Jacques Kallis was a rare treat for all cricket fans. The all-rounder displayed his prowess in both batting and bowling. The South African hero was also a top-notch slip fielder. 

Jacques Kallis showed his ability as a player in both Tests and ODIs. He amassed 13,289 runs at an average of 55.37 and also took 292 wickets in 166 Tests. In ODI cricket, he scored 11,579 runs at an average of 44.36. He ended with 273 wickets in 328 ODI matches. Jacques Kallis is also the 5th highest run-scorer in international cricket with 25,534 runs. He scored 62 tons. As Kallis turns 44 today let us have a look at his top three performance against India:

IND vs SA: Jacques Kallis' all-round show in 2006 at Durban

India was playing South Africa at Durban and had complete control over the match as they kept picking wickets. But Kallis was the lone survivor who had stuck to one end as wickets kept tumbling at the other end. He batted for almost the entire innings and scored a gallant 119 off 160 balls which helped South Africa to reach a competitive total of 248. He shined with the ball as well as he scalped 3 wickets for just 3 runs. His all-round contribution made sure that South Africa won the match by a whopping 157-run margin.

IND vs SA: First Double Hundred in 2010:

Many people believed that Kallis did not have what it takes to score a double century because for 15 years, he was not able to convert his hundreds into double hundreds. It finally came against India at Centurion where he scored an unbeaten 201 and guided South Africa to a win by an innings and 25 runs. He followed that up with two more hundreds against India, both of them coming in Cape Town. A year later, he scored his second double hundred against Sri Lanka on his home turf at Newlands in Cape Town.

IND vs SA: Signing it off with a magnificent ton:

Surprisingly, Kallis announced his retirement from the longest form of the game before the 2013 Boxing Day Test.  He had been struggling with his form as it had been more than a year he had not scored a century. In what was his last Test innings, Kallis scored 115 after South Africa was in a spot of bother at 113/3. His knock ensured that the Proteas score 500 and take a lead ahead of India’s 334. His solid six-hour-long innings and a century-stand with AB de Villiers ensured that India was in deep trouble. South Africa went on to win the match by 10 wickets and gave him the farewell he rightly deserved.
