Birmingham Phoenix continued their dismal run in 'The Hundred' 2023 tournament and ended up losing to Trent Rockets by 49 runs in their recent match.

Moeen Ali led Birmingham Phoenix lost yet another match in The Hundred Mens Competition 2023 and continued their dismal run in the tournament. Phoenix's recent loss came against Trent Rockets, wherein, they were not able to chase down 163 runs and ended being on the losing side by 46 runs. Birmingham are placed at the bottom of the table in 'The Hundred' 2023.

Trent Rockets' Joe Root takes a screamer to dismiss Moeen Ali 

Trent Rockets batter Joe Root was not able to contribute with the bat and was dismissed for a score of 8 runs. However, Root pulled off a brilliant catch to dismiss Birmingham Phoenix skipper Moeen Ali. During the 69th ball of the second innings, while facing Daniel Sams, Ali tried to pull off a short ball towards the midwicket region of the off side. Though, the ball didn't clear the boundary rope and found Joe Root. However, Root had to jump to catch the ball, but at last, he was able to hold onto the catch and ended up taking a screamer.

Matthew Carter breaks the backbone of Birmingham Phoenix batting lineup 

Trent Rockets pacer Matthew Carter was adjudged Player of the Match for his economical bowling against Birmingham Phoenix. Carter bowled a total of 20 balls in the match and gave away runs at an economy rate of 0.75 runs per ball. Carter also picked up two wickets and dismissed the likes of Jamie Smith and Chris Benjamin. 

Apart from a clinical bowling performance, Trent Rockets also put up a brilliant batting display and ended their first innings for a score of 162/6. Colin Munro was the top scorer of the Rockets' first innings and ended up scoring 34 runs in 17 balls. Apart from Munro, Sam Hain played an innings of 30 runs in 21 balls and contributed necessary runs to the team's total.
