Jonty Rhodes picks his best
There has been a huge debate with regards to who the best is among Virat Kohli and Steve Smith. Now, Rhodes has also joined in the debate. In an interview with The New Indian Express, the former Mumbai Indians coach picked up his best batsman amongst Virat Kohli and Steve Smith.
"I enjoy watching Virat Kohli. Steve Smith, with that action and technique, makes the ugliest hundreds I have ever seen but the man just keeps scoring runs."
"Someone who likes to watch cricket would want to say 'Wow! What an amazing shot' as opposed to 'Oh! How on earth can he hit that?' So Virat Kohli right now." he added.
Kohli and Smith's recent performances
Steve Smith had an outstanding Ashes series. He had amassed 774 runs in eight innings. In the process, the ex-Aussie skipper dethroned the Indian skipper to grab the top spot in ICC Test rankings. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli has had a very good limited-overs series. He had scored two straight centuries against West Indies and recently had scored a match-winning unbeaten half-century to take India home in the 2nd T20I against South Africa.
Virat Kohli hailed as the 'Master of run-chases'
Ever since his debut, Virat Kohli is known to be the Men in Blue's best player to chase a target and has most often led the team to victory. It was no different on Wednesday, as King Kohli stayed unbeaten till the end of India's innings vs South Africa during the 2nd T20I, adding yet another victory for India under his captaincy. Many former cricketers took to congratulate Virat Kohli and hailed him as the master of run-chases. Former cricketer Mohammad Kaif said that Virat Kohli's knock was a display of high-quality batsmanship skills and called Kohli the master of run chases. Indian commentator and analyst Harsha Bhogle was bewildered with Virat Kohli's ability to play pure cricketing shots in a T20 game without compromising on the quality of the shot. Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra said that 'chase master' Virat Kohli was in a league of his own and that he controlled the run-chase as no one else could. Aakash Chopra went on to say that India would definitely win the series against South Africa.
