Glenn Maxwell suffers serious injury ahead of World Cup
Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has been sidelined from the T20I series in South Africa due to an ankle injury incurred during training. Maxwell, who previously had a metal plate on his left leg from a fracture last November, aggravated his ankle during Australia's first training session ahead of the upcoming contest.
In response, Australian selectors have prioritized Maxwell's well-being and are optimistic about his availability for the upcoming three-match ODI series in India just ahead of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup. Selector Tony Dodemaide stated, "We will monitor Glenn's recovery with a view to him being available for the three-match ODI series in India in advance of the World Cup."
At 34 years old, Maxwell was already scheduled to sit out the ODI portion of the South Africa tour in order to be present for the birth of his first child. He now aligns with other notable white-ball players such as Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Cameron Green, and David Warner, who will also be absent for the T20 segment of the tour.
