MS Dhoni, former captain of the Indian team, has not put on his iconic No 7 jersey since India lost the ICC Cricket World Cup semi-final in July. Since then, Dhoni has served the Indian Army for a period of 15 days. He was said to be on a break from cricket. According to several reports, Dhoni is just injured and that's why he has not played for India for a few months now.
Some background on the injury
The report further states that Dhoni has had issues with his back from as early as the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2018. He even spoke about it in a post-match press conference. He is said to have carried that niggle to this World Cup where it only aggravated. It is also reported that Dhoni sustained injuries on his wrist and thumb during the World Cup. All these Injuries needed nursing and rest which is exactly what Dhoni is doing. He is expected to be fully fit by November which is around the same time till which Dhoni was said to have extended his break last week.
A delight for Dhoni fans
Fans all across India will be relieved to learn that the legendary captain was only absent because of an injury. The lack of updates on Dhoni made speculation run wild on social media platforms. While many experts sensed that Dhoni was signalling towards retirement with his break from cricket, fans wondered if they would ever get to see the iconic No 7 again. Although it is very possible that Dhoni did use his break from the game to make some key decisions, it could also very simply mean that Dhoni is just resting. The break could be a blessing in disguise for the 38-year-old as he may find the batting form he had not been able to find recently.
