Mzansi Super League: Hashim Amla hired as Cape Town Blitz's consultant

Hashim Amla will be with the Blitz for their first two matches which will be played on November 8 and 10 before he leaves to play in the Abu Dhabi T10 League.

Former South Africa batsman Hashim Amla will continue to be associated with cricket in a different role after been appointed as the batting consultant for the Cape Town Blitz for the upcoming edition of South Africa's premier T20 competition, Mzansi Super League on Monday. The right-handed batsman will be with Blitz for their first two matches on November 8 and 10 before he leaves to play in the Abu Dhabi T10 League and will then rejoin the squad on November 25.

Amla will add experience along with Ashwell Prince as Blitz look to win the title this year. Apart from these two, Mark Boucher (Spartans), Gary Kirsten (Heat), Eric Simons and Robin Peterson (Giants) will also be part of the league.

Ashwell Prince on Hashim Amla coming onboard 

Speaking to a leading South African media daily, Prince said that Amla has a wealth of experience and knowledge of the game and the franchise is really looking forward to him bringing that to the management team. He also said that this opportunity is a chance for Amla to explore whether this position could be something that he might want to take up in future. He said that he has no doubt that he’d do a great job at it if he did.

Moeen Ali, who signed for the team for their first two matches, and is a long-time friend of Amla's, believes that the former Proteas batsman will make a big impression on hopefuls in the side.

Amla played his last match at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 against Sri Lanka on June 28. He signed with Surrey on a two-year Kolpak deal. His T20 career span across 154 matches in which he scored 4284 runs at a strike rate of 126.14. He played 44 T20Is, the last of them in August 2018, scoring 1277 runs at a strike rate of 132.05.
