India's poor form continued to hurt them as they were inflicted severe damage by the West Indies. The Caribbean side thrashed India by eight wickets in the T20I series finale and thus secured their first bilateral series against the 'Men in Blue' since 2016. Nicholas Pooran was the highlight of the series as the West Indies batsman starred in his side's home series win over India. He was also declared the man of the series.

3 things you need to know

  • India lost the five-match T20I series 3-2
  • Nicholas Pooran was adjudged the man of the series
  • Romario Shepherd was the man of the match in the deciding game.

Nicholas Pooran showed his bruises after a match-winning knock

Pooran announced his arrival in style in the inaugural edition of the Major League Cricket as his blistering knock in the final of the MLC guided MI New York to the title. The 27-year-old also had a good time with the bat in the IPL as he amassed 358 runs in 15 IPL innings in 2023.

Pooran continued his onslaught in the T20I series as he proved to be the main factor behind India's mediocre cricket and West Indies' sheer determination. But the win came at a cost as he was struck on the stomach by his fellow West Indies batsman Brandon King off Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh's delivery.

That didn't stop him from scoring a match-winning innings of 35 balls 47 in Florida. He later took to Twitter to show his bruises he suffered during the match. He posted a picture on 'X' formerly known as Twitter with the caption, "The after-effects thank you brandon king and arsdeep."

Nicholas Pooran also gave a befitting reply to Hardik Pandya

Earlier Indian skipper Hardik Pandya instigated him as he insisted he wanted Pooran to hit him as that was part of the plan. "Nicky (Pooran) didn't come out to bat and that allowed us to keep our pacers back, also allowed Axar to bowl his four overs. If Nicky wants to hit, let him hit me and that was the plan, I enjoy such competition. I know he is going to hear this and will come hard at me in the fourth T20I."

Pooran did return the favour as he lodged Hardik consecutive sixes which he later shared also on Instagram. Indian will now face Ireland in the three match T20I series starting on the 18th of August.
