Pravin Amre backs Rishabh Pant, says he needs to focus on his timing
As Rishabh Pant's cricket woes continued, assistant coach of Delhi Capitals, Pravin Amre backed the cricketer saying that he just need to focus on his timing
Regardless of India's stellar show against Bangladesh on Sunday, Rishabh Pant's international cricket troubles continued. Team India newcomer Shivam Dube also showed signs of brilliance as he picked up three wickets to support Chahar but Pant's contributions were nowhere to be seen. Pant's poor glovework was also criticised in the series against Bangladesh. Amid the talks of Pant’s exclusion from the national side, former Indian cricketer and coach and the assistant coach of Delhi Capitals, Pravin Amre has compared Pant’s bad timing with the likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. However, he also asserted that Pant needs to focus on getting his timing right.
As per reports, Amre highlighted how Ricky Ponting handled Pant during the IPL season and asked him to not try too hard. That advice gave Pant the space to be himself and Amre and Ponting tried to ensure that the pressure didn't affect his game. Furthermore, Amre went on to laud the timing of star players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma and said that Pant can be equally good but is just sceptical about the nature of his play at the moment. He then praised Pant's quality of being an equally devastating batsman in the middle overs as compared to powerplay and death overs.
Sourav Ganguly backs Rishabh Pant
BCCI president Sourav Ganguly backed the struggling Rishabh Pant, calling the wicketkeeper-batsman a 'superb player' who will mature slowly. The 21-year-old is enduring a woeful run of form in the ongoing T20 International series against Bangladesh and has struggled to make an impact both with the bat and behind the stumps. But Ganguly supported him.
"He's a superb player. Give Rishabh Pant time, he will be fine," the former India captain told PTI when asked if India is missing Mahendra Singh Dhoni's safe hands behind the wickets.
"He will mature slowly, you have to give him time. India played really well last night," he added.
