Rohit Sharma: Third Indian to enter top 10 rankings in all formats
Rohit Sharma’s stellar performance in the 3rd test against the Proteas has put him on the 10th spot in the ICC test rankings, to reach the top 10 in all format.

Rohit Sharma’s stellar performance in the third Test against South Africa has advanced him to the 10th position in the ICC Test rankings. Sharma has become the third Indian batsman, after Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir, to reach the top 10 in all formats of the game. The recent Test series against South Africa saw him donning the new role of a Test opener.

His knock of 212 at Ranchi helped him improve his ranking by 12 points to reach the 10th position. Apart from Sharma, Ajinkya Rahane’s knock of 116 in the third Test helped him equal his own career-high ranking of 5th place. Rahane had achieved 5th spot in the ICC ranking in November 2016. He is now the third-best Indian batsmen in the Test rankings after Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara. Mayank Agarwal also had a fruitful test series, which placed him at the 18th position in the ICC test ranking. Now, India has five batsmen in the top 20.

Rohit tops it all
Rohit’s knocks aggregating to 529 runs in the South Africa Test series earned him the player of the series award. The Hitman holds the second position (Feb 2018) in ODI rankings and seventh in T20s (Nov 2018). Meanwhile, the other two batsmen in the record list were Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir. Kohli has been in the number one position in all three cricket formats, while Gambhir has been on the top of Test and T20 rankings. He also held the 8th position in ODI.
Meanwhile, fast bowlers Mohammad Shami and Umesh Yadav ended the series with best-ever points tally. Shami, at 751 points, is only one spot away from his career-best ranking of 14. Yadav is at 624 points, three points below his best of 21.
