The win hinged on India's score being just two runs ahead of the DLS par score, in a match where Ireland showed resilience by recovering from a shaky start at 59/6 to post 139/7. Barry McCarthy scored a much-needed half-century for the home side and he received some assistance from Curtis Campher, who hit 39 runs.

Gaikwad-Jaiswal survive comical run out
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad provided a solid foundation for India at the beginning, although a peculiar incident occurred during their opening partnership. In the second over, bowled by Josh Little, an unusual situation emerged. Jaiswal seemed to have been hit by the ball on his thigh pad, causing it to go towards square leg. Gaikwad initiated a run, and both batsmen started moving, but Gaikwad abruptly changed his mind and turned back halfway down the pitch.
Surprisingly, Jaiswal continued the run, and Gaikwad, realizing the throw was coming to his end, quickly reversed his direction and reached the other crease safely. This incident proved crucial, given that Gaikwad's subsequent six off the fifth ball of the fifth over helped India surpass the DLS par score. Rain intervened during that over, with India trailing by two runs. Jaiswal followed up with a four and a six in the next over, but his innings was cut short by Craig Young, who took two wickets consecutively in the seventh over.

As the rain intensified, the umpires guided the players back to the dressing room after the fifth ball of the over. Unfortunately, the weather prevented any further play, ultimately leading to a handshake between captains Bumrah and Paul Sterling in the presence of the umpires. With India staying two runs ahead of the DLS par score, their unbeaten record against Ireland remained intact, and they also claimed a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
