India defeated Pakistan by 89 runs on Sunday at Manchester in the ongoing ICC Men's Cricket World Cup. The Men in Blue displayed a clinical performance against Pakistan, extending their run of World Cup wins over the neighbouring country to 7.
In the aftermath of the result, in a shocking display, Pakistan trolls targeted Sania Mirza over their nation's defeat to India. According to the netizens and a viral video online, Shoaib Malik who registered a golden duck during the match was spotted at a sheesha lounge with Sania Mirza and other Pakistani cricketers, in the lead-up to the crucial match. The trolls blamed Sania Mirza for his performance on the field during the match.
Netizens expressed their anger and wrote that having late-night parties and junk food a night before the match makes the athletes lethargic.
One user wrote: "Really disappointed with our so-called 'athletes'. I'm sorry no such thing as privacy when your celebrities out in the public & have such a huge match the following day. With such positions comes huge responsibility & eventually respect if your able to carry that through" [sic]
The trolls made personal attacks on Sania Mirza on Twitter.
While the visuals were going viral, Sania Mirza had hit back at the trolls and said: "That’s the video you shot without asking us,disrespecting our privacy even though we had a child with us?& got told off for doing so,& u came up with this crap?FYI ‘outing’ was dinner & yes ppl are allowed to eat if they lose a match!Bunch of fools!Try better content nxt time" [sic]
