Sourav Ganguly becomes second Indian captain to become BCCI president
Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly becomes the second captain in 65 years to become BCCI President; Ends 33-month Lodha Committee appointed COA's stint.

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly is all set to be appointed as the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) president. Sourav Ganguly pipped front-runner Brijesh Patel to become the next BCCI president. Ganguly had an illustrious career as a player, captain, mentor and president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). Ganguly is also part of the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) along with former teammates Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman.

Sourav Ganguly: New dawn for BCCI
When the office resumes, it will be the 33-month term of the Committee of Administrators who were appointed post-Lodha Committee reforms. Ganguly was appointed captain after the fixing scandal involving then captain Mohammad Azharuddin broke out. The team in tatters, the morale down, Ganguly lead his team from the front and India made a strong statement winning the series against Australia and reaching the finals of the 2003 World Cup. Acting BCCI president CK Khanna hailed the decision to appoint Ganguly as president.
Union Minister Amit Shah’s son, Jay Shah, will be the new chairman of the BCCI. Arun Dhumal, younger brother of MoS finance and former BCCI president Anurag Thakur will be appointed the new treasurer. Sourav Ganguly is set to become the second captain after Maharajkumar of Vizianagaram to become a full-time BCCI president. Notably, former Indian Captains Sunil Gavaskar and Shivlal Yadav acted as BCCI President on an interim basis in 2014.
Sourav Ganguly said his priority is to look at the first-class cricket in the country. Ganguly who has scored more than 18,000 international runs, though has time only till July 2020 when his term ends due to mandatory cooling-off period according to the new rules set down by the Supreme Court. As per the rules, An administrator can only serve for six years in a row. Ganguly has been holding various positions in the CAB for the last five years.
