The former team director of Indian Premier League team Kolkata Knight Riders contended that Ganguly's appointment had secured the future of Indian cricket.
Indian cricket is already in excellent shape and if Sourav Ganguly leads them the way he led India in the early 2000s, the future looks secure as well.

Furthermore, cricket statistician Mohandas Memon pointed out that the former Indian skipper would be the first test cricketer since Maharaja Kumar Vizianagaram to assume the mantle of BCCI's leadership.
The last Indian Test cricketer to become the BCCI President was Maharaja Kumar Vizianagaram who led India during three match Test series in England in 1936. He was president from 1954-56.

Also note Shivlal Yadav and Sunil Gavaskar were interim presidents in 2014.#Ganguly
Another Twitter user summed up Ganguly's cricketing journey by highlighting a video shot at the time of his being unceremoniously dropped from the Indian team in 2005 by former Indian coach Greg Chappell.
