Steve Smith has proved why he is the best Test batsman and arguably the greatest of this generation in the fourth Test match against arch-rivals England at the Old Trafford in Manchester. Smith has had a great Ashes series so far. The charismatic Australian batsman had dethroned Virat Kohli to become the number one batsman in ICC Test rankings. Steve Smith has been having a dream run in the ongoing Ashes series having amassed 671 runs at an average of 134.2. The ex-skipper was ruled out of the third Test due to a concussion but made a terrific comeback in the fourth Test at the Old Trafford as his scores of 211 and 82 as Australia beat England convincingly by 185 runs to retain the Ashes. However, after his return from the infamous ball-tampering scandal, it seems that Steve Smith has unknowingly landed himself in trouble once again.
Smith imitates Jack Leach's specs moment
Things were going pretty good for the Australian team as they won it against England. It was also a time of celebration for them as Steve Smith returned after 12 months and played a flabbergasting inning. But the celebration did not go as well for Australia as some images of Bespectacled Steve Smith went viral. Smith was seen donning glasses and indirectly mocking the Captain of England who came last to bat and scored 1 run in a 76-runs partnership with Ben Stokes. The top-ranked Test batsman was criticised by the English fans for his action.
Smith had mimicked Chris Rogers and not Jack Leach
After Steve Smith was targetted by the English fans for teasing Jack Leach, Australia's head coach Justin Langer came forward to clarify things. Langer said that Steve Smith was mimicking Chris Rogers and not Jack Leach. Just like Leach, even Chris Rogers used to wear glasses. Rogers had last represented Australia back in 2015. Justin Langer further added that Chris Rogers is a great mate of the squad and that is what it was all about. He also mentioned that people can make of it what they like and that they (Australian team) cannot do anything of what people make of it. The former Test opener also said that as far as his experience is concerned, when you are doing well people try and pick holes in you which is alright as that is life.
