Team India will be eyeing the ICC ODI World Cup and not letting any team take the trophy away from home this year. The hosts recently won the Asia Cup 2023 in which they defeated Sri Lanka in the final, winning the match by 10 wickets. Team India last won the ODI World Cup in 2011 and will look to repeat history when the tournament starts on October 5, 2023.

3 things you need to know

Adam Gilchrist suggests 3 stars to be the mentor of Team India in the ODI World Cup

An unforgettable moment occurred in 2011 when India finally won the ICC Cricket World Cup after a heartbreaking 28-year drought, cementing the year's position in cricket lore. Sachin Tendulkar, Yuvraj Singh, and MS Dhoni were the masterminds behind this monumental win. Tendulkar, in his final World Cup game, scored 482 runs to lead India in the tournament's batting averages. Yuvraj Singh scored 357 runs and took 15 wickets, both of which were extremely important, earning him the title of Player of the Tournament. For his part, Dhoni, India's captain at the time, saved his greatest performance for the World Cup final, where he scored an unbeaten 91 to lead his team to victory.

But alas, time marches on and the three greats of Indian cricket have retired, leaving the baton in the hands of Rohit Sharma. India is preparing to host the World Cup for the first time in 12 years, and the stakes couldn't be greater. Adam Gilchrist, a former Australian cricketer, has commented on this, saying that the current administration of the Indian cricket team should consult with these legends in order to improve the team's chances.

If I would be in the Indian hierarchy, I would be tapping into guys like Sachin (Tendulkar), MS (Dhoni) to come in and spend time with the group if they are available, and pass on all their experience. I would have tried to get guys like Yuvraj (Singh), who had so much going on in his life during that 2011 tournament, and ask them to speak openly about it,

Both Yuvraj and Tendulkar have kept a certain distance from formal positions inside the Indian cricket structure, in contrast to MS Dhoni, who took on a mentoring role with the team and provided invaluable input during India's T20 World Cup campaign in 2021. But Gilchrist thinks that it is the perfect time for these veterans to impart their wisdom upon the current Indian side, especially since Virat Kohli is the only World Cup champion among them.

What did Adam Gilchrist say about India vs Australia?

Team India will end their preparation for the World Cup after they participate in the India vs Australia 3-match series of warm-up games. Talking about these top two teams. Gilchrist said:

They are the two teams that will be definitely vying for the title, so to go up against some of the best teams in the world in Indian conditions will be a real benchmark as to how you are traveling, leading into the tournament.

Team India and Australia are one of the favorite teams to lift the World Cup this year. It is important to note that the tournament starts in the next 15 days and these 2 weeks of preparation are going to play a huge role for the teams participating in the prestigious tournament. India vs Australia WC match will be played on October 8, 2023.
