Tim Paine calls superman Steve Smith 'a freak' for blinder at slips
Australian skipper Tim Paine was extremely delighted with Steve Smith's stunner as he called Steve Smith a 'freak' as he addressed the press after stumps.
Australia could have had a better day on the field on Day three of the fifth Test as they had some lapses in the fielding that could prove to be costly for them. However, unsurprisingly, Steve Smith once again was the hero of the day, this time with the ball as he caught on to a stunning catch to dismiss Chris Woakes, a much-needed wicket as England piled up the pressure on Australia. Coincidentally, Chris Woakes had claimed Steve Smith's wicket in the first innings when England were in a similar situation as Australia were, craving for Smith's wicket. The stunning catch from Steve Smith was followed up by Marnus Labuschagne putting in a superhuman dive to catch yet another blinder, helping Australia land England two late blows. England ended day three with a lead of 382 runs with two wickets left, despite Australia making a failed appeal on the last delivery of the day.
Tim Paine calls Steve Smith a 'freak'
Australian skipper Tim Paine was extremely delighted with Steve Smith's stunner as he called Steve Smith a 'freak' as he addressed the press after the day's play. Tim Paine said that they(the Australian side) were having a chat about the moment on the pitch and that it was an incredible moment. Tim Paine said that cricketers like Steve Smith and Ben Stokes were such good cricketers who were always involved in the game and their minds were cautious at all times. The skipper continued to heap praises on Steve Smith and said that after the Australian run-machine has batted for seven weeks straight, he was not surprised to see him pull out a stunner like he did at the Oval. Here's what the skipper had to say about the Ashes hero:
Steve 'Superman' Smith
It seems that Steve Smith can do nothing wrong as of now. While the 30-year-old has enthralled everyone with his batting, he also managed to grab the spotlight on the field as well. It happened during the 87th over of England's second innings which was bowled by Mitchell Marsh. On the final delivery, Marsh had bowled a fuller one outside off stump and Chris Woakes had attempted a drive but was unsuccessful as the ball took the outside edge and flew wide of Steve Smith who was stationed at second slip. Smith dived to his right and pulled off a blinder as Woakes walked back to the pavilion as England had amassed a lead of a huge 374 runs at that time.
