To get picked, you have to perform says Aussie fast bowler Nathan Coulter-Nile

The selection woes of Australian selectors have increased after the recently concluded ODI series against India. The Aussies came from behind to win the series 3-2 after a 0-2 deficit. The competition will get intense with the return of Steve Smith and David Warner. 

Apart from the intense competition in batting, there will also be a cut-throat competition among the bowlers in order to consolidate their spots in the World Cup. One of the competitors is Nathan Coulter-Nile who says that the only way he can get to the World Cup squad is by taking wickets.

“The World Cup is always going to be spoken about. It’s around the corner, people are vying for selection,” ICC quoted Coulter-Nile, as saying.

“Practically, to get picked, you have to perform. So that’s the easy way to do - go out and perform. You don’t need to worry about if you’re getting picked or not if you’re taking wickets. It’s only when you’re not taking wickets or you’re not making runs that you worry about it,”  Coulter-Nile added

The 31-year old fast bowler will need to put up a good show in the upcoming five-match ODI series against Pakistan in UAE which starts from March 22.  There will be intense competition within the probables, comprising Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Jhye Richardson, Pat Cummins, Kane Richardson and Jason Behrendorff.

“Everyone’s performing, that’s why we’re winning. But even when someone has a bad day, they’re really supportive of other blokes who have had a good day.”

“It’s fantastic to see. I don’t think it’s a conscious effort that anyone makes. Just think it’s good mates supporting each other. I don’t think anybody goes out there thinking, ‘I’m not going to worry about selection’. It’s just the way everyone is; they’re all just good people,” he added.

Coulter-Nile left the Indian tour midway i.e. after the first two ODI's against India as he had to fly back home and be with his family for the birth of his second child.
