Vijay Hazare Trophy saw another day of competitive cricket on display on Wednesday. Tamil Nadu beat Railways comprehensively, while Punjab emerged victorious against Baroda. In other matches, Rajasthan thumped Services and Bengal defeat Tripura. Here is a look at how things went about in the Vijay Hazare Trophy:
Tamil Nadu beat Railways by 8 wickets
Having won the toss, Railways opted to bat first and ended up posting a total of 200 for 9 in 50 overs. Baba Aparajith was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4 for 30 of his 10 overs. In reply, Tamil Nadu cruised home in 44.1 overs on the back of Aparajith's ton (111 off 124 balls, 7 fours, 1 six).
This was Tamil Nadu’s seventh consecutive win and they are sitting at the top of the points table in Group ‘C’.
Punjab beat Baroda by 3 wickets
Baroda was invited to bat first and they ended up scoring 222 for 8 in their 50 overs. Vishnu Solanki top-scored for the home side (54 runs off 74 balls, 6 fours, 1 six). Kaul starred with the ball for Punjab with figures of 4 for 58. Chasing a target of 223, Punjab lost Abhijeet Garg early but cameos from Abhishek Sharma, Gurkeerat Singh, Anmol Malhotra & Karan Lalia ensured that the visitors got over the line comfortably.
The win ensures Punjab stays at the top of the table with 20 points in Elite Group A and B. This was Baroda’s fourth consecutive loss.
Bengal beat Tripura by 5 wickets
Tripura was asked to bat first by Bengal Captain Abhimanyu Easwaran. They were bowled out for 224 in 49 overs. Bengal's chase did not start well as they lost Goswami for 7. Former skipper Manoj Tiwari scored 85 off 103 balls with 7 fours and was well supported by Agniv Pan who scored a half-century as well which was enough for Bengal to get over the line.
With this win, Bengal gets to third place with 18 points from seven matches. To qualify for the knockouts they will not only have to win their remaining two but will also need Gujarat (24 pts from 6 matches) to lose all three. Tripura sits in sixth position in the points table in Group C.with 12 points and is already out of the knock out stage.
Rajasthan beat Services by 48 runs
Services won the toss and chose to field. Rajasthan scored 239 for 8 from their 50 overs. Aditya Garhwal scored 91 off 79 balls with 8 fours and 2 sixes. Chasing 240, Services' innings never got going as they kept losing wickets frequently. They were eventually bowled out for 191. Rahul Chahar starred for the visitors taking 4 for 56 in his quota of 9 overs.
This was Rajasthan's first win in seven games after losing five on the trot. They are at the penultimate position in the points table in Group 'C' whereas Services are placed fourth.
