After India's unexpected loss in the Cricket World Cup 2019, the Supreme Court had appointed Committee of Administrators (CoA) to review India's performance, once skipper Virat Kohli and Chief Coach Ravi Shastri return to the country. Reports have emerged with CoA chairman Vinod Rai offering some insights into the committee's finding. Vinod Rai reportedly said, when a team performs badly it is not just the captain's responsibility. At the same time, he also underlined that to say nobody held Virat Kohli responsible would be incorrect.
Whose responsibility?
He reportedly stated that it is good to have checks and balances. However, he personally felt that when a team performs badly, it is not only the captain's responsibility. He then added that there have been a number of closed-door discussions, hence, to say that nobody held Virat Kohli responsible for the World Cup loss would be incorrect.
Committee of Administrators
The Supreme Court-appointed CoA included chairman Vinod Rai, Diana Edulji and Lt Gen (Retd) Ravi Thodge. They were to have discussions with the Chairman of selectors MSK Prasad on a concrete plan for India's next year's T20 World Cup in Australia. The likely questions for which the CoA was looking for explanations were regarding Ambati Rayudu's handling, the presence of three wicketkeepers in the side, especially Dinesh Karthik and Dhoni's batting position in the semifinal match against New Zealand.
India's loss at World Cup 2019
India had begun the tournament on a very dominating note and had even defeated the 2015 World Cup champions Australia. Therefore, the loss against New Zealand, in which the Indian team could not reach a modest target of 240 runs was unexpected and disappointing, to say the least.
