Wasim Jaffer stated that he would prefer Yashasvi Jaiswal to start for India against the West Indies in the second Twenty20 international. Jaiswal displayed remarkable form while playing for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2023 season. He broke the record for the most runs scored by an uncapped player in a season that had stood for 15 years by amassing 625 runs in just 14 games. Jaiswal's highest score was 124, and he consistently maintained a stellar average of 48.07 with a 163.61 strike rate. His outstanding effort earned him a position in the Indian team for the Test series against the West Indies.

Yashasvi Jaiswal made his debut in a Test match against the West Indies last month. He had an incredible start to his Test career, scoring 171 runs in his first game to reach an incredible milestone. He now ranks among the top five players with the highest debut scores in away Tests owing to this amazing effort, which also made him the highest 3rd scoring Indian in his Test debut. Another highlight of Jaiswal's maiden game was a record-breaking opening stand of 229 runs that he shared with captain Rohit Sharma.

IND vs WI: What did Wasim Jaffer say about Ishan Kishan and Jaiswal?

In an interview with Cricinfo, Jaffer stated that he preferred Jaiswal over Kishan for the second T20I in Guyana. The former Indian starter also expressed his concern over Kishan's performance in T20I matches. He stated:

“I want to see Yashasvi Jaiswal. He should play as an opening batter. I want to see Jaiswal in place of Ishan Kishan. Ishan Kishan’s T20I form worries me. In the last 15 innings, he hasn’t even scored a 40, the strike rate is also too low. So, that’s a cause of concern, but he was in good form in ODIs. It’s a different format (T20I). He also had an ordinary IPL season,”

“Why not give an opportunity to the boy who played very well in the IPL? He won the emerging player award and is confident. I’ll definitely look towards that change,”

Jaffer stated that after Jaiswal's outstanding performance in the IPL this season, it would be perfect to give him a chance, and the 21-year-old's insertion into the lineup is something he wants to see and believes could help India win its 1st T20 match against the West Indies.
