Why winning IND vs WI ODI series will not get India any points in ODI Super League?

Rohit Sharma and Co. went toe-to-toe against West Indies and they have had a doiminant start to the multi-format series. After test series glory, the Indian team emerged victorious in the first game of the three-match series by five wickets, however, the win did not give them any points in the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League. Team India is positioned sixth in the World Cup Super League standings and received a direct entry in the marquee round of the tournament.

Why winning ODI series against WI not benefit Team India in WC Super League?

The Indian cricket team, being the hosts of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, received an automatic qualification for the marquee round of the tournament and also stand as one of the top ten teams in the Super League standings. However, winning the ODI series against Windies won't benefit the team in the Super League points table. Here is why:
- India vs West Indies ODI series is not a part of the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League.
- All the ten teams of the World Cup 2023 are already decided and Windies are not part of the tournament and were knocked out in the qualifiers round.
- Each team has already played its quota of 24 matches and the new cycle of the ODI Super League will begin in 2024.

The Indian cricket team has never won an ICC event since 2013. The last time they lifted the ODI World Cup was back in 2011. Team India were the hosts at that time and now, they have yet another chance to bring the trophy back home after 12 years.
