'Worked on it for...': Ashwin shares insight behind the ball that dismissed Labuschagne

While it was the batters that primarily emerged as the protagonists in the 2nd ODI between India and Australia, Team India's bowlers also showcased an equally devastating form to help India secure a momentous 99-run victory over Australia. Ravichandran Ashwin became the pick of the bowlers as he snared away with 3 wickets. His dismissal of Marnus Labuscagne has become a subject of discussion as he completely hoodwinked the batsman with his variation.

Ravichandran Ashwin's splendid comeback in ODIs
In the lead-up to the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, Ravichandran Ashwin received a surprise call-up for the bilateral series against Australia. And courtesy of how he has performed so far in the series he could make it in the final World Cup squad. Ashwin announced his return to the ODI format in Mohali, where he took away 1 wicket and in the following match at Holkar Stadium, Ashwin demolished the Aussie batting order with 3 quick dismissals.

R Ashwin on how he got the wicket of Labuschagne
All three of his wickets were typical bowler's wickets and among them, one that propelled most eyeballs is the delivery that got Marnus Labuschagne out. The veteran spinner cleaned up the off-stump of Labuschagne and left him bamboozled. The spin wizard later narrated the story behind the wicket and elaborated on how he got the skilful batsman to miss.

“I wanted to keep the length perfectly, in terms of trying to keep it away from the batter and also change pace,” said Ashwin. “I felt they were not picking it off the hand that very well. So maybe that angle that I’m creating and the change of grip - I’m using my third finger to bowl the carrom ball and the off-break - maybe, hopefully, it will hold me in good stead,” he said talking about his mindset while trying the variations, which ultimately resulted in Labuschagne being bowled trying to play a sliding carrom ball back in the 13th over."
