World Cup 2019 | 'Great sportsmanship at the end': Kane Willamson and Co prove Cricket is indeed a gentleman's game after Carlos Brathwaite’s heartbreaking dismissal

New Zealand continued their dream run in the ICC World Cup 2019 with a tense 5-run win over a spirited West Indies side at the Old Trafford in Manchester on Saturday. By the virtue of this win, the Kiwis are at the summit of the points table with five wins in six games. Their match against India was washed out due to rain.
Coming to the Kane Williamson-led side's contest against the Windies, it was a roller-coaster ride which went right down the wire but in the end, the team that held their nerves ended up on the winning side and it happened to be New Zealand. Well, at the same time, even the Caribbeans should be given their fair share of credit as they made the Kiwis earn their win.
However, there was one standout moment of the game where the New Zealand players were seen consoling the West Indian all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite. The all-rounder had notched up a quickfire ton and almost took his team over the finish line only to falter at the final hurdle. It was a case of 'So near yet so far' as they ended up snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. With six runs needed off seven balls, Brathwaite despatched a simple one off James Neesham in the final ball of the penultimate over. Unfortunately, the ball ended up finding Trent Boult at the boundary as the two-time World Champions were bowled out for 286 in their chase of 292.
Brathwaite was very emotional as he went down on his knees in grief after his fantastic innings of an 82-ball 101 had gone in vain. He was consoled by Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson, James Neesham and Ross Taylor.
This video of New Zealand players consoling the big West Indian was posted by ICC on their official Twitter handle. Watch the video here.
Even the netizens came forward to hail the spirit of Cricket.
