Hosts England will be looking to keep their semifinal hopes alive after back-to-back losses against Sri Lanka and arch-rivals Australia as they will be hoping to get the better of India during their ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 clash at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Sunday.

In a must-win encounter, English skipper Eoin Morgan won the toss and elected to bat first. The hosts got off to a brisk start on a good batting wicket, riding on their openers Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow's partnership. Bairstow top-scored for the hosts with a 109-ball 111 as England got to a stiff total of 337/7 in their 50 overs.

In reply, India got off to the worst possible start as KL Rahul departed without troubling the scorers. Skipper Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma then added 138 runs for the second wicket stand. Hitman scored his 25th ODI century and his third one of the tournament. After the two were dismissed, the onus was on Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya to take India closer to the target.

Pant, who was making his maiden World Cup appearance, played some swashbuckling shots that kept India in the hunt. However, an incredible catch from Chris Woakes brought curtains down on his innings.

It happened in the 40th over of India's run chase which was bowled by Liam Plunkett. On the first delivery, the pacer bowled a shorter one on the pads as Pant flicks it. At first, it seemed that he would get a boundary. However, Woakes had other ideas as he ran to his left, timed his jump to perfection and took an incredible catch. Thus, Rishabh Pant's brilliant innings came to an end as he departed for a 29-ball 32.
