Cricketing fraternity and netizens lashed out at the boundary count rule that saw victory being snatched away from New Zealand despite putting up a valiant fight against England in the finals of the World Cup at Lord's in London on July 14.
According to the ICC, if a game is tied in the Super over, then the team that has scored more boundaries during their innings would be declared as the winner of the contest. This rule saw the light of the day after quite a long time as the game went down the wire at both the end of England's innings and at the end of the Super over.
Netizens lashed out at the boundary count-back rule and took to Twitter to express their disappointment, frustration, and anger at the ICC. Read some of the reactions here:
Some fans were of the opinion that wickets count should have been considered instead of boundary count in order to determine the winner of the contest.
Some fans asked the ICC to seriously reconsider the rules they framed as it did not justify the result of the finals.
England beat New Zealand by the virtue of scoring 24 boundaries during their innings as opposed to New Zealand's 16.
