American footballer Alex Morgan has announced that she is expecting her first child with husband Servando Carrasco. Morgan, who won gold with the US national team at this year’s Women’s World Cup in France, made the announcement on her Instagram page. In the picture, Carrasco holds a placard that reads “Ready or Not” and Morgan holds a board that announces the month of the expected arrival. In her caption, Morgan stated that the “newest member of the Carrasco family” is “coming soon”.

Morgan’s season with the Orlando Pride in the National Women’s Soccer League was cut short by a knee injury. She and Carrasco met at the University of California, where both played football. They were married on New Year’s Eve in 2014. As part of the women’s national football team, Morgan helped lead her teammates (including co-captains Megan Rapinoe and Carli Lloyd) to the United State’s fourth FIFA Women’s World Cup championship in July, after last taking home the title in 2015.

She was also nominated for the FIFA The Best women's category awards, 2019 held in Milan, Italy. The US women’s national football team made headlines this past year throughout their constant fight for equal pay. In March, they filed a gender-discrimination lawsuit against the United States Soccer Federation because they were not being paid as much as the men’s team.

Morgan might miss out on Olympics

According to media reports, she still hopes to compete at the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo next summer. But the pregnancy presumably rules Morgan out of Olympic qualifying for the US, as well as the early portion of the 2020 National Women’s Soccer League season with the Orlando Pride.
