It was a tough game for Everton players and fans as they saw one of their star players suffered a season-ending injury against Tottenham Hotspur at Goodison Park on Sunday. Former Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes was on the receiving end of a rather reckless challenge from Heung-min Son in the 79th minute of the Premier League game. Everything seemed normal at first but on closer inspection, Gomes displayed extreme pain as he held onto his leg in angst.

Andre Gomes suffers ankle fracture after freak injury while playing against Tottenham

The players' reaction on the pitch said it all as Son and Aurier displayed extreme remorse post the tackle, the latter even broke down into tears on the pitch itself. Post-match reports later revealed that Andre Gomes suffered an ankle fracture after the collision with Son and Serge Aurier on Monday night. The official statement from Everton claimed that the midfielder will undergo surgery on his ankle on Monday.
