As it happened

Spain made six changes to their side after their draw against Norway on Sunday with Sergio Ramos missing out, serving a suspension. Villarreal's Gerard Moreno was handed his international debut after his blistering start to the season. Sweden, on the other hand, made just a single change as Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof coming into the line-up for the crunch game.

Spain saw a lot of the ball in the game, having 74 percent possession but lacked much incisiveness throughout. It was the home team who opened the scoring after Marcus Berg scored in the 50th minute. David de Gea made an exquisite double save but couldn't deny the striker from scoring from the rebound. Spain's relentless attack finally paid off when Rodrigo, came off the bench to equalise right at the death, which was enough to see Spain qualify for the tournament next year. The big talking point, however, was when De Gea suffered an abductor injury and had to be taken out in the second half.
