Thursday night's Europa League group stage game was crucial for Manchester United as they were looking to get over their issues away from home and Harry Maguire, who joined the club this summer and became the world's most expensive defender, was rightly appointed as the captain for the tie. Maguire was delighted to be named as the captain for United's game against Partizan in the Europa League. So much so that he forgot his duties as a captain before the game could even commence.

Europa League: Watch Harry Maguire's funny moment

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer named Harry Maguire as the captain for the tie as club captain Ashley Young was rested for the game. But as mentioned, he completely forgot about his duties and jogged off to take his position with his team-mates ahead of the clash. The referee had to desperately shout to call him back, as Maguire awkwardly returned to shake the hands of the match officials. Referee Xavier Estrada Fernandez was heard shouting, "Maguire! Harry!", after the Man Utd skipper, as Partizan's captain Vladimir Stojkovic waited patiently for the coin toss.

It was definitely a rookie mistake from Maguire but can be forgiven, given that it was his first game as Manchester United captain in the absence of regular leader Ashley Young. United fans would be pleased with Maguire as his side emerged victorious in a tough away fixture; courtesy of Anthony Martial's first-half penalty. United's defence managed to handle everything the home side had to throw at them in what was a well-earned clean sheet in the Europa League Matchday 3 fixture.
