Guardiola warns City defender John Stones about his fitness

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola gave his England defender John Stones a stark warning about his future after addressing concerns over his fitness.

Stones has been riddled with injuries for much of Guardiola's time at the Etihad Stadium and onlt recently returned to fitness.
Guardiola confirmed the defender would play in the FA Cup third round tie against Port Vale on Saturday but also said his injuries are holding back his career.

He said: "He (Stones) has the conditions to do it but to be the best central defender you have to play one entire season every three days being there. If you don't, it's difficult to reach the potential that he has. He has to be at the level to play regularly and in the last three seasons and a half, he could not do that."
