The last fixture of Premier League Matchday 11 saw Everton welcome Tottenham Hotspur at Goodison Park. The game ended in a 1-1 draw with both sides sharing the spoils. However, Everton midfielder Andre Gomes suffered a horror injury during the game, after a challenge from Tottenham's Heung Min Son. Son was awarded a red card for the challenge. The South Korean international left the pitch in tears after having a look at Andre Gomes' injury.
In the 79th minute, as Andre Gomes made his way across the wing looking to build an attack, the Portuguese was the victim of a rough challenge from Heung Min Son. Son appeared to make a late challenge on Andre Gomes. Gomes then went on to collide with Serge Aurier. In the process, Gomes is suspected to have suffered a broken leg. Everton striker Cenk Tosun rushed towards the Portuguese, who was writhing in agony. Tosun proceeded to cradle Andre Gomes' head in order to prevent the Portuguese midfielder from looking at his horrific injury.

Heung Min Son visibly distraught after challenge
Heung Min Son initially received a yellow card for the challenge. However, after closer observation and intervention from VAR, referee Martin Atkinson handed him a straight red card for the offence. Son, who was left distraught with the incident, held his head in his hands as he left the pitch after his sending off. Everton captain Seamus Coleman made his way to the Tottenham dressing room after the game, in order to console Heung Min Son. Coleman, who suffered a similarly gruesome injury in March 2017, spent some time with Son and went on to assure the South Korean that there was no blame attached to him.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino insisted that Son should not have been sent off for the challenge. When asked if the club would appeal against the red card, Pochettino replied that Tottenham will decide on the same within the next 24 hours. Meanwhile, the Premier League issued a statement saying that Heung Ming Son was sent off for the challenge since it "endangered the opponent".
