Indian football team drawn in same group as Myanmar at the Asian Games 2023

For the first time in nine years, the Indian men’s and women’s football teams will participate in the prestigious Asian Games tournaments. While the teams were earlier denied permission to participate in the marquee event, the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs cleared the teams’ participation on Wednesday, July 26. The Asian Games 2023 will be the 19th edition of the showpiece event.

India men’s football team drawn in Group A of the 19th Asian Games

During the 19th Asian Games Team Draw Ceremony for football, the India men's football team was drawn into the Group A of the tournament. India will be accompanied by China PR, Bangladesh, and Myanmar.  It is worth noting that India is a two-time champion in the Asian Games in 1951 and 1962 while winning the bronze medal back in 1970.

India women’s football team drawn in Group B of the Asian Games 2023

Meanwhile, the India women’s football team was drawn into the Group B of the women’s tournament. Alongside India, Thailand, and Chinese Taipei were the two other teams drawn into Group B. Here’s a look at the complete list of group-wise divisions of teams.

Complete draw for Men’s football in Asian Games 2023

A total of 23 teams were divided into five groups of four teams each, while Group D featured only three teams in the men’s competition. The top two teams of each group and the four best third-placed teams will advance to the round of 16 of the Asian Games 2023.

Group B: Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Mongolia

Group C: Uzbekistan, Syria, Hong Kong, Afghanistan

In the women’s competition, three groups featured only three teams while two groups featured four teams. The top team from each group and the three best second-placed teams will advance to the quarterfinals of the Asian Games 2023.
