FC Goa announced their arrival into the new season with a dominant display at home. Seiminlen Doungel opened the scoring for the home side when he broke the deadlock with a poacher's finish. Manvir Singh did really well as he pulled the ball towards the centre, just before it went out which was converted by the striker with a first-time finish. All-time ISL-topscorer Ferran Corominas doubled the result in the 62nd minute. Corominas showed excellent composure as he controlled the ball well before slotting it into the back of the net. Carlos Pena added the third in the 81st minute when he got ahead of the defenders and hit the ball on the volley and into the net.
The Gaurs entered the second half with a one-goal lead and pressed home the advantage. They added two more goals to their tally and did not let Chennaiyin FC create too many chances. As expected, Goa were ruthless going forward, while the visiting team failed to settle into any kind of rhythm. Overall, it was a very satisfying performance by the home team. Doungel scored his fifth goal in eight games vs Chennaiyin FC and couldn't have asked for a better debut for his new side. Defender Seriton Fernandes was adjudged the man of the match for his solid performance at the back for the home side.
