Matchday 1 of the Indian Super League (ISL) 2019-20 season just concluded with FC Goa making a strong statement in their opening fixture. Newly formed Hyderabad FC missing Matchday 1 meant Kerala Blasters had to play twice, but they will be left disappointed as they fell to their first defeat of the season on Thursday in a narrow defeat against Mumbai City FC.

ISL 2019-20 Matchday 1 Analysis

As mentioned, last season's runners-up FC Goa made a fine start with a dominant victory over Chennaiyin FC. All-time ISL top-scorer Ferran Corominas and debutant Seminlen Doungel ensured Chennaiyin FC's bottom position table after Matchday 1. Nigerian striker Bartholomew Ogbeche remains the top-scorer having scored twice in Kerala Blasters opening game against ATK. Bengaluru FC, meanwhile had a rather dull start to their title defence as they stumbled to a 0-0 draw against NorthEast United. Manager Carles Cuadrat was very disappointed after the game as he felt his side deserved a goal in the game where they dominated almost the entirety of the game.

The Matchday 2 in the ISL will commence on Friday, October 25 when Hyderabad FC play their first game in the ISL away to ATK. We also have a rematch of the final from last season as FC Goa host champions Bengaluru FC on Monday which is sure to be a blockbuster fixture.
