In a shocking event, a football match was struck with lighting and sent two players to the hospital. The video of the incident that took place on Monday has gone viral on social media. According to reports, the match was played between Wolmer’s Boys’ School and Jamaica College at the Stadium East field in Kingston. When the lightning struck, four players fell, however, two of them suffered serious injuries and were rushed to University Hospital of the West Indies.

In the video, a loud thunder can be heard when the lightning strikes, seconds later two players hit the floor, clutching their heads to the ground. The video also showed that people noticed them and gather around them to rush them to the hospital. Some other players also collapsed and began to cover their eyes. The match had to be eventually called off. A report by Jamaica gleaner showed that another player complained of chest pains and had to be held overnight at the hospital.
Netizens concerned about the players
Footage from the incident has started to make the rounds on social media and stunned fans have shared their thoughts. An Instagram user said, "Wow this is sad but I’m happy that they responded instantly." Another user said, "I hope they are doing fine now. Another user advised that copper rods be installed in stadiums to avoid such incidents in the future. Another fan suggested that, "Both players had the same reaction..... Prob struck the field and went through their metal studs and leaving through their head. Thank god it wasn't a direct hit. A 400 ft copper rod should be installed in every outdoor football field to deflect a lightning bolt to protect players and fans." Since the video went viral, many people have prayed for the recovery of the players and posted messages of concern.
