Former Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly interested in taking up the managerial role at Tottenham Hotspur. According to Spanish media reports, he is keeping a close watch on the situation of Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino, despite also believing that he might be at Real Madrid if he wants it. The Portuguese tactician has been linked with multiple clubs across Europe.
In the last week, multiple news outlets in the UK and Spain have reported that Mourinho is the preferred man for Los Blancos’ president Florentino Perez, if Zidane departs anytime soon. However, as per the team’s recent performance under Zidane, it is extremely unlikely for the club to part ways with Zidane anytime soon. The team is enjoying a good run of form, scoring 10 goals in their last two matches, while conceding none. Zidane was re-appointed as the club’s manager before the end of last season, after having a successful stint with the team before, winning three consecutive Champions League titles.
As far as the Spurs are concerned, Pochettino’s team has failed to create a greater impact, after last year’s Champions League heroics. The club might sack their manager if Spurs suffer a defeat against West Ham United. Spurs face West Ham on November 23, 2019, after the international break. The Premier League side have had a dismal season in the competition so far. They are currently placed 14th in the Premier League table, 20 points behind league leaders Liverpool. Reports suggest that another defeat in the Premier League would force the club to sack Pochettino. This also suggests that Spurs would already be looking for replacements and Mourinho is said to be amongst the front-runners for the top job.
Arsenal are also interested in Mourinho
Mourinho has been away from management after he was sacked by Manchester United in 2018, following a string of poor performances by the club. He was also linked to a managerial role at Arsenal following Unai Emery’s unimpressive role at the Emirates. Mourinho, would however, prefer to take up the top job only after the current season ends, in order to rebuild the team according to his needs.
