Kylian Mbappe just broke a Lionel Messi record.

World Cup winner, Kylian Mbappe, netted a hat-trick for his club, Paris Saint-Germain, as the team battered Club Brugge in a 5-0 win in a Group A champions league match on Wednesday. The second-half hattrick helped him eclipse Lionel Messi as the youngest player to score 15 goals in the history of the Champions League. Barcelona forward, Lionel Messi, was 21years-and-289-days-old when he netted his 15th Champions League goal in a 4-0 quarterfinal first-leg win against German club, Bayern Munich in 2009.

How the record was broken

The forward was brought on in the second half in the 52nd minute. His team was already leading 1-0, thanks to Icardi's goal in the seventh minute. He scored his first goal within nine minutes of stepping on the field with an assist from Angel Di Maria.

He scored his second goal after Angel Di Maria made a sublime pass in the 79th minute. his third goal was scored within four minutes in the 83rd minute after making the most of Maria's outside-of-the-foot through ball.

"Football is passion"

While speaking to the media after the match, Mbappe said that he wanted to be a part of the playing XI. The forward, who was a substitute in the match since he was recovering from a hamstring injury, said he wanted to show that it will be a difficult match without him; however, the exact opposite happened and the team played really well. He also said that football is not a game but a passion and that drives him to play, win and score goals in every match. Kylian also thanked the medical team of the French club that helped him recover from his injury. He also credited the win to the team.

The "first" substitute

Mbappe became the first substitute to score a hat-trick in the Champions League since Joeseba Llorente scored for Villarreal in the year 2008. He is also one of the top 10 French goal scorers in the premier club competition.

At the top in Group A

PSG is currently perched at the top of Group A after winning all three matches and scoring a maximum of nine points with Real Madrid trailing them by a single point. Madrid has now gathered a total of four points after losing 3-0 to PSG and drawing 2-2 with Club Brugge.

PSG will next play against Marseille on November 7, in a Ligue 1 meeting to be played at the Parc des Princes stadium.
Club Brugge is at the 3rd position in Group A with 2 points to their credit. They have failed to win a single match after drawing two and losing one match in a total of three matches they have played so far.
