Longshots draw blood on the field as they gun down maestros
The weekend certainly belonged to the underdogs of football as they stunned their respective league toppers to gain a certain perspective, if not lead charts.
The weekend certainly belonged to the underdogs of football as they stunned their respective league toppers to gain a certain perspective, if not lead charts. For starters, Levante gunned down Barcelona despite the G.O.A.T Lionel Messi scoring. Real Madrid are definitely missing the presence of Christiano Ronaldo as even they drew to Real Betis in La Liga. One cannot even ponder over Emery's misery as Arsenal witness wrath fall upon them again whereas Ligue 1 witnessed table-toppers PSG lose to Dijon. However, the highlight has to be the Bundesliga where Frankfurt upset Bayern Munich with a heavy defeat of 5-1.
Levante stun Barcelona
Lionel Messi scored again but was helpless to prevent Barcelona conceding three goals in seven minutes as Levante stormed to a surprise 3-1 victory in La Liga. Messi converted a first-half penalty at the City of Valencia Stadium for his sixth goal in five games only for Levante to stun the defending champions with an incredible treble shortly after the hour on Saturday. "Everything unravelled," said Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde. "We didn't start the second half well, we weren't creating chances and although they weren't either they suddenly scored two goals. The third one hurt us a lot."
Ole's wheel gets another puncture
Bournemouth's forward Joshua King hit a terrific volley from close range to thrash United and help Bournemouth smile as they scored their first Premier League goal for more than a month. United put up a pleasing performance but still ended up on the wrong side of the result, with Ole admitting at a team selection mistake. Despite the changes to make their gameplay more attacking, United failed to cause Bournemouth any problems.
Betis draws Madrid
Zinedine Zidane's might not be in the same form as they were during Ronaldo's reign but they certainly are cruising in the La Liga. However, Real Betis did not just hold Madrid to a goalless draw but also held them back from topping the La Liga table. Hazard did show some promise but Goalkeeper Joel Robles was stern at his crease making some crucial saves off Vinicius Junior and Sergio Ramos.
Wolves show promise, again
Coming off from a heartbreaking but thrilling match against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup, Arsenal did look determined to grab this win as they drew blood first. However, the hosts gave away their lead as Raul Jimenez headed Joao Moutinho's hooked cross past Bernd Leno to help Wolves upset the Gunners. Granit Xhaka after some displeasing moments from the Red Army scored for Arsenal to help the team hook onto the fifth position in the team.
Dijon upset PSG
PSG were handed their third defeat of the season as Dijon scored twice in the game which saw Mbappe score. Mbappe's delightful chip helped PSG gain lead which was soon levelled by deserving Mounir Chouiar's efforts. Soon after the half time, Dijon hit hard again as Jhonder Cadiz thrashed another one into PSG's net. Icardi tried to look for a comeback but was disappointed as they shot hit wide.
