Erling Haaland eyed by Manchester United
Erling Haaland is having a season to remember for RB Salzburg, as his stock continues to rise. Incredibly, Haaland has already scored 26 goals in just 18 appearances this season. But he rose to prominence in September when he scored four goals on his Champions League debut against Genk. Haaland is also the top-scorer in the competition with seven goals. The striker has already blasted five hat-tricks.
Solskjaer and Erling Haaland: Norwegian connection at Manchester United
It should come as no surprise that the teenager has been watched by several clubs after his goal-scoring exploits. And recently, it was reported that RB Salzburg would accept £86 million for Haaland while his father Alf-Inge Haaland has already confirmed that the striker would fit in well in the Premier League.
New reports in Norway suggest that Manchester United are ‘far ahead’ in the race to sign Erling Haaland. United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has apparently given the green light to pursue the hitman. Solskjaer is familiar with the forward having given him his first taste of senior football when in charge at Molde. Considering his rapid rise, it's safe to say United are looking to steal an early march on their rivals.
Solskjaer is keen to bring in attacking reinforcements in January, having been left a little short up front after Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez were allowed to join Inter Milan without any replacements being signed. However, any move for Haaland will likely have to wait until the summer, with the youngster happy and settled at Salzburg and targeting silverware in several competitions.
Manchester United will face plenty of competition, as it is believed around 20 European clubs – including Liverpool and Juventus were monitoring the player ahead of next summer.
