Mauricio Pochettino finds himself out of a job after the Argentinian was sacked by Tottenham Hotspur. However, reports have now emerged that Mauricio Pochettino refused to quit as manager of Tottenham Hotspur. This is in part down to the fact that Mauricio Pochettino stood to receive a £12m payoff if he was sacked as manager, owing to the three years left in his contract. However, Pochettino would forfeit the £12m if he chose to resign.
Mauricio Pochettino sacked, Jose Mourinho takes over
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy released a statement saying that the club were extremely reluctant to make the change. However, Levy also said that it was not a decision that the Tottenham Hotspur board have taken lightly, nor in haste. Mauricio Pochettino's departure has seen Tottenham Hotspur turn to former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho in order to salvage something from their season. Tottenham are currently 14th in the Premier League and have not registered an away victory in the Premier League in the calendar year since January.

Jose Mourinho has now been appointed as manager of Tottenham Hotspur. The former Manchester United manager was sacked by the Red Devils in December last year and since took to punditry with Sky Sports. Mauricio Pochettino's sacking was met with frustration from the Tottenham faithful. The former Southampton manager guided Tottenham to four top-four finishes in the Premier League in his five seasons in charge. Before his arrival, however, Tottenham registered just two top-four finishes in the Premier League in all of 22 seasons.
It will be interesting to see where Mauricio Pochettino ends up after his sacking. Bayern Munich are currently without a permanent manager, having sacked Niko Kovac earlier this month. Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain could also be interested in Pochettino's services. However, it has been reported that Pochettino would favour a return to Spain.
