Nicolas Pepe joins Arsenal to become club’s most expensive player, coach Unai Emery delighted

Nicolas Pepe is a gunner! Arsenal Football Club completed the signing of Ivory Coast winger in a club record fee of £72m for the player, who represented Lille in the French Ligue 1 in 2018-19.

Nicolas Pepe is a gunner! Arsenal Football Club completed the signing of the Ivory Coast winger by spending a club record fee of £72m for the player, who represented Lille in the French Ligue 1 in the 2018-19 season. Pepe will wear the No 19 shirt for the club.

Coach Unai Emery termed the player as a ‘highly-rated and talented winger’ while speaking to the official Arsenal website and added that he was coveted by many of the top European teams. The coach stated that he is delighted with Pepe’s signing because getting a high-quality winger has been one of their topmost objectives in this transfer season. Emery added that the 24-year-old will bring in pace, power and creativity to their play and hopefully with it, more goals for the team.

Before, Pepe, the most expensive signing for Arsenal FC was  Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who was brought in from Borussia Dortmund for £55 million in the 2017-18 season.

Pepe scored 22 goals for Lille last season, along with 11 assists. His performances helped Lille finishing second in the Ligue 1. 

The footballer was born in France had begun his career with the fifth tier Ligue 1 team Poitiers, before signing for Angers.

Arsenal had finished fifth in the Premier League last season and missed out on a spot in the Champions League . They made it to the final of the Europa League, where they were beaten by Chelsea.
